Emuna, part 2: Why Emuna?

Emuna, part 1: The Universal Answer

Here's a 3-day emergency crash course on emuna:

Life is full of questions.

Think for a moment about some of the things that you ask yourself from time to time: Why are some days so successful, yet other days are disastrous? Why do good people suffer? Why are some rich, strong, and healthy while others are poor, weak, and sick? Why are some blessed with wonderful parents and/or spouses, yet others suffer unbearable family environments? Why do wonderful people die young? The list of life’s dilemmas is literally endless.

Let’s candidly ask ourselves a question that’s even more basic: What are we doing here on this earth? Why were we born? It’s amazing how many people lack a satisfying answer.

In all fairness, no human brain can provide us with answers to the above questions. As a result, many of us harbor feelings of bewilderment and frustration, because so many things in life simply don’t make sense. Performing the simplest of tasks is difficult when we don’t understand what we’re doing. Life is a bitter experience when a person doesn’t know what he or she is living for.

Since our resources of human intellect fail to provide us with answers to life’s questions, then we must go beyond human intellect to find what we’re looking for.

That brings us to emuna. Why emuna?

All of life’s questions have one universal answer – emuna. Emuna is like a master key to life’s locked dilemmas.

Emuna – a Working Definition

Emuna is the firm belief in a single, supreme, omniscient, benevolent, spiritual, supernatural, and all-powerful Creator of the universe, whom we refer to as G-d. He alone cares for each of us in a unique, tailor-made fashion according to our own individual needs. Everything that happens to us in life is the product of G-d’s will and personal intervention in our lives, which we refer to as Divine providence, or DP. DP is designed to help us perform our task in life and to assist us in realizing ou personal potential to the hilt.

To be continued tomorrow, G-d willing
