I do not understand. If the great Rabbis can answer prayers, why should we then go to Hashem.

They don't pray to the Rebbe but in his merit, a totally different thing. Besides Breslev mainly promote tefilla directly to Hashem so yes, you should first of all speak to Hashem and then it can also be a great segulah and schut for you to pray in the merit of the great Rabbis by their grave sites.
