How do we ask for forgiveness from someone who is no longer alive? How do we ask forgiveness from people we're no longer in contact with?

Thank you so much for this. Sometimes my need to apologize to my deceased mother wakes me up in the middle of the night, it is so strong. Coincidentally, this year is the 7th since her passing. I will take your words to heart and do as you suggest. I will keep in mind the admonition to try to never repeat my thoughtless behavior, and take some comfort in the fact that this is a way of making amends. Surely there will be some solace in that.
