Missile, Miracles and Miles

Frequent Miracle Program
Thursday, 4:50 PM, Ashdod

We just had our first Red Alert siren of the day, the 66th since the beginning of the war. Hashem is showing His miracles for all to see. This obligates us to strengthen teshuva and emuna, for when Moshiach comes and the truth becomes completely apparent, no one will be able to shrug his or her shoulders and say, "I didn't know..."

In the 66 missiles attacks so far, Hamas has fired 190 missiles at Ashdod. 125 have been intercepted by the Iron Dome. Of the 65 that have fillen within Ashdod city limits, 54 have fallen in open areas and 11 have been direct hits in residential or industrial areas. From the direct hits, one person has beenseriously wounded (who is now recouperating and out of life-danger) and three have been lightly wounded. Baruch Hashem, there have been no fatalities.

Coincidence? Iron Dome? Hardly; one Hamas missile accidentally fell in Egypt, killing 7 and wounding many more...

Here, each fallen missile has yielded a miracle story of its own. Funny, in English, "missile" and "miracle" have the same two first and last letters, "mi-le" or "mile". Amazingly, the Talmudic or Halachic mile - mil - is 2000 cubits, or 912 meters. It is also a unit of time, 18 minutes. Rebbe Nachman of Breslev calls this the "boundary of holiness" since in many places in Halacha (Shabbat, family purity, salting meat, baking matza, and more) this is the border between the sacred and the profane. In like manner, when we look at a missile, it is profane. But when we see the miracle behind it, it is sacred.

We should start a new program in the south of Israel - mileage benefits in the "Frequent Miracle Program". Rav Shalom Arush shlit'a says that when the missiles are falling, we should be singing and dancing as we take cover. How right he is...

As we continue to pray for our soldiers, we extend our open arms to the Heavens and say, "Thank You, Hashem - You are truly the greatest!"

A while ago Rav Brody said that there would come a time when it would be near impossible to get on a flight out of the US to Israel. I'm wondering if the recent FAA flight ban, albeit temporary, is a sign of things to come.

If history teaches us anything, from the coercion of Bnei Yisrael into slavery in Egypt up to the Shoah, is that draconian measures are introduced very gradually.

Any comment from Rav Brody?

PS: I just read that Air France is not flying to Israel until further notice. Obviously it is much easier to find an alternative travel route from Europe, but it is scary to think that air travel, which is taken completely for granted, can so easily be curtailed.

Hakoras hatov

Rav Moshe Shternbuch, shilta said the nisayon now is to attribute things to ten or to HaShem. The Rav said we should be singing and dancing and thanking HaShem for the incredible miracles.

My friends and I made a hakoras hatov gathering, we said tehillim perek 100 to thank HaShem and 121 for continued protection, we asked everyone to bring a miracle story and afterward we sang and danced. Anyone and everyone can do this - don't miss out!
