Pick Your Horse, by Baruch Becker
Nachman Emuna (left) joins Lazer (right) at the stable of Israeli politics. Out in the pasture, you see four scraggly old nags with the flies buzzing all around them. You see, not even the slick PR people can make these old horses look young and spirited. Here's the picture:
Livni (Kadima) - this old mare isn't even loyal to her own party, much less to the country she wants to lead. "Either make me Prime Minister or I quit!" As Olmert's Foreign Minister, she lied through her teeth about the virtues of UN Resolution 1701 that marked Israel's capitulation in the Second Lebanon War two years ago.
Bibi (Likud) - Bibi as Prime Minister wanted to surrender Hevron to the Arabs. As Sharon's Treasury Minister, he adopted a rob-the-poor give-to-the-rich policy cutting child stipends which financially crippled many large families. Israel doesn't need a poor-man's Clinton.
Mofaz (Kadima) - another general who wants to lead; as Chief of Staff in the army, he didn't do much to improve Israel's readiness.
Barak (Labor) - father of the "secular revolution" whose aim is to rid Israel of anything Jewish. Another former general who as Prime Minister pulled the army out of South Lebanon and allowed Hizbulla to fill the void. Long on rhetoric, short on virtues.
Hey, who is that beautiful filly to the right? Her name is Emuna - she is the one you can count on - always.
